Just Buy. Over the past few years I have bought my wife many vacuum cleaners. She had a shark and a Dyson. Neither had the amazing suction power that this thing has. We have large dogs, one of them is a HUSKY who sheds two Cocker Spaniels a day. Husky people, you know what I mean. When my wife turned this feature on, she pulled an entire dog kennel out of the carpet that her other vacuum couldn't clean. This thing is so annoying that cleaning the living room exhausted her. She then read the instructions and went through the calibration mode, which now automatically adjusts to the type of soil. It's a little awkward to lug around, but I think that's because we're used to attaching vacuums instead of canister vacuums. The cord is quite long, as is the hose, so you don't have to move it around too much for a standard sized room. It works well on both carpeted and hardwood floors, although it can be overkill for carpets. Overall, we are enthusiastic about this vacuum cleaner and can only recommend it. A NOTE. If you don't run the calibration setup and it's not set correctly for the type of floor, it will suck itself onto the floor, not get enough airflow and overheat. The location of the reel head on/off switch is also a little awkward, but that's not a big deal. Yes, and the instructions do not explain what the small safety valve on the handle is for. I think that's so you can adjust the suction on the fly if it's too high, but since there's no indication of this in the instructions, that's just a guess.
