Not the best that everyone says

I think reviews are overrated. This is a good unit that does a lot of the cooking work. I am very happy that the inside of the pot is made of stainless steel and not aluminum. However, I don't think I'll be using it very often. Chicken is easy and quick to steam, so it works well for shredding chicken. But the need to pre-fry food before cooking is a nuisance. Also, the cooking times are just insane - there aren't any matches in any of the books. Each of them tells you something different. At one point he says never turn it on without 32 ounces of liquid in the pot. The instructions seem to be written by people who don't all speak the same language because the measurements don't match and they use recipes that refer to buttons they don't have (good luck finding that button for the quick cook program!). lousy instructions, finished products were never what I hoped for. The brown rice came out a little al dente, which I like. And you can't adjust any settings while cooking. However, it just comes out and you can manage it or start over. I think if you cook a lot of pot dishes like soup that would be great. But it doesn't replace my AirFryer, which can literally do anything - the only downside is that it's all aluminum and the coating is very easy to remove. So the Instant Pot wins because it has a stainless steel pot. but I don't want to cook anything in it. All in all, it's not for me and I could gift it to someone. Update 5/7/20: I've found this to cook rice quickly and efficiently. Brown Rice - 12 minutes, Jasmine - 4. Shredded Chicken is quick and easy to make. But there is nothing left to cook. It literally burns anything no matter how much liquid you use. I hate this thing and only keep it because I eat a lot of rice and it makes rice in no time. But that's just the worst of it all. Even chili! How do you burn a chili pepper? It can and does. I have to get my slow cooker out of storage because the thing burns even when you use the slow cook function. Basically it is an overpriced rice producer. Never again Instant Pot! LAST UPDATE: 10/21/21. The lid broke! Replaced the o-ring with the **second** of 3 new rings (the first o-ring allowed steam to escape around the rim - yes I know how to put it in the track to install it properly). Literally a loud "POP" sound and steam escaping the rim at the back, the lid flew off the rim. (Watching as I quickly unplugged the unit, I fled the room.) I was steaming frozen chicken exactly as directed when the lid popped open. I finished cooking the chicken in the air fryer and threw the whole thing in the trash, including new gaskets - and IMMEDIATELY ordered a real Asian rice cooker. I would never, ever recommend the Instant Pot to anyone, and I wouldn't take any other if it was *gifted* to me! Absolutely the worst junk I've ever used. I will never buy an Instant Pot or any related product ever again!
