At first I fell in love with a tray that I saw in a design magazine. It was no longer available, of course, and if it was, it would be worth a fortune. So I went looking for something similar. This tray wasn't an exact copy, but it did have a favorite handle and a more convenient size. However, I will confess that I was not at all sure about the "Shagreen" execution. I am pleased to report that the tray is very beautiful. Luckily the "shagreen" is artificial. No animals were harmed during production. But it looks amazing. The fittings are made of shiny matte brass which is so popular these days. And solid enough to comfortably hold in hand. In addition, there are absolutely no defects in form or workmanship. Not to mention that unlike the one I fell in love with, it's the perfect size for my less luxurious family room. So overall I am very happy with this purchase.
