Great looking scanner, software not what it should be

I've been waiting to get the NeatReceipt scanner since I first saw it in a flight log. Got one last week and am sending it back :-( First of all the device looks great. I like its weight and easy installation. The software also looks very friendly. I decided to scan a lot. My first problem with it is the scanning. Although it seems to recognize the information you need to verify - the date could be wrong and a bit of intelligence could go a long way, for example he scanned the date 1996 for a receipt 2006. So check the auto scanned value. Then I scanned another one upside down - he read it and the amount and date was wrong! Ok that was unfair so I rescan the receipt in the same transaction. That's good but then find out I didn't see an obvious way to say it to rescan the information for a new date and amount, I ended up deleting the transaction and rescanning it as n ow. The next problem, after about 20 scans, the application freezes. Maybe it's not the software since I'm having similar issues with Quicken. Anyway, I had to close the application from the task manager. After restarting and restarting the program, all 20 scans I just did are gone! It's not clear what I need to do to recover. The irony is that when I run the application I get a message that there is no SAVE or ACCEPT button as each transaction is automatically saved :-) Anyhow, I managed to repeat this scenario 2 more times. HP support was late - after I decided to return the block. Apparently you can recover these scans by running "Quick Search" -> "Find All Saved Receipts". Hope this helps someone else. I like how easy it is to specify different credit cards with the last 4 digits. The folder organization seems nice too. I have a folder name of the year with an end date in December and then a category by use such as groceries, household items etc. The decision to return this unit was made when trying to export to Quicken. Quicken can read the QIF file, but it can't correctly match my transactions to different accounts (even with the last 4 digits). The categories weren't in sync, so there was too much rework to do - I had to select an account to enter, then move and reclassify transactions. I still recommend this to anyone who just wants to scan receipts. and manage amounts in NeatRecipts. If you want to use NR to enter data into Quicken, save time and just enter transactions into Quicken. The other features of the software are of little use. I returned this and ordered a scanner just for me as I already have Paperport for document management. I think Quicken or MS Money should work with NeatReceipts and if they do I'll consider it again.
