Chord Dave > Feliks Euforia > DT 880's = Heaven

For starters I have 4 known Utopia TOTL headphones, HD800, Empyrean and Z1R. Like the rest of us I've climbed the ladder from the HD 650 to the AQ Nightowls DT 990 HD 800S and these are the very first headphones I've fallen completely in love with, of course I mean the sound. But it requires a very good amp, as many people have said over and over again. I tried the DT 880 for the first time with a Matrix I-Pro DAC through an Audio gd NFB-1AMP and I'm totally rethinking what I paid for my current $20,000+ audio system. Only the overall soundstage almost matches the DT 880's HD800. I was surprised that the Audio gD scores so well in terms of performance, so I switched to the Emotiva A-100 Kraken Unleashed mod page 11 and effectively turned the headphone front end into a 50 watts. In doing so, I found that these 600 ohm headphones thrive on performance since they don't have a fully balanced section. I also tried my other amps, from the Violectric V281 to my Chord Dave, and it sounded very authoritative, but it was still missing something. My last combo I used was my Feliks Euforia OTL Amp > Chord Dave > DT 880 and I have to say it's almost the best sounding headphone combo in my lineup. 1. Utopia 2. Empyrean 3. DT 880 is very easy to hear, no piercing highs and I see some people complaining about this but I would say it's a lack of proper amplification. I would highly recommend these headphones and have just ordered Dekoni Audio full leather ear pads for them. This should make them slightly forward and tighter with the bass. UPDATED 11/20/20 Added all deconi leather pads and bloated sound, not recommended.
