Review on πŸ”Œ Enhance Connectivity: Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (Thunderbolt 2 Compatible) - Cable Sold Separately by David Stewart

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This Device is Both Good and Bad

The good thing is that it's physically well designed and built and has most of the features I wanted. I really wanted to like this device. However, it has some disadvantages. Firstly, despite the large current converter, the Express Doc cannot deliver enough current to reliably power a USB stick, Apple Superdisk or iPad. This is disappointing as it limits the usefulness of the device. The biggest issue for me, however, is that the Express Dock doesn't create an audio device, so there's no way to select a device for audio input or output. It could be a problem with my particular block. I do not know. Supporting Belkin was a real challenge. They don't seem to know much about their products and are more focused on writing down exactly what you're saying than solving a problem. After 3 hours with them I got the distinct impression that the Express Dock's audio was not working. But I am not sure. Now I have to decide if I want to mess it up with sending it back only to get another unit with the same issues. Another weird and possibly related issue is that plugging in the Express Dock causes my existing BassJump audio device to be removed. . As a result, BassJump will not work with the Express Dock, whether connected to a USB port on the dock or directly to a MacBook Pro.

Pros
  • Connect 8 separate devices to your laptop with a single Thunderbolt cable (cable sold separately). Compatible with Thunderbolt 2
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
