I have a home with open plan living areas so my husband and I bought four of these gates to secure such large areas. I got lucky with this gate over 12 years ago when I had my eldest son and thought it would be great to buy again. In 11-12 years something has changed, and not for the better. Doors don't close well. I had to secure one with a chimney sweep because every time my kid sat down and barely leaned against the door, it would swing open and fall through. Now we have to climb over the gate if we want to get through. I'm small (5'4") and I'm struggling to get over the gate safely. I'm concerned because we have one of them at the bottom of a very steep stair case and my child is a climber. To get the exact layout of the To get the locking mechanism the hinges are usually glued one on top of the other.We assembled the last few gates we didn't even bother to remove the packaging from the door.Well my short stature eventually got the better of me and I fell very hard when I tried to climb over one of the gates I have a very good bruise to show it (excuse the hair on my legs it hurts to shave right now) Overall I would Gates with one exception all the time still recommend.They solve the problem with the locking mechanism.
