Review on πŸ”’ Defender Security U 9553 Lock & Door Reinforcer, Stainless Steel, Recessed, 2-1/8 in. x 2-3/8 in. x 1-3/4 in. by Sean Xayamonty

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice article though.

After a recent burglary I bought 5 of these to strengthen doors and latches I had some trouble deciding between this mount and the flat door mount (Prime-Line Products U 9590) In retrospect I think this second mount was a lot would have been easier to install but I originally thought that having a snap bezel on the outside of the bracket would make this product more secure to install.Products were delivered on time. While this looks like an easy item to install I would like your attention to two things 1) The gap between the face of the door and the jamb is critical - if your door closes tightly this item may not fit without additional work 2) You may need basic carpentry skills and tools tools (chisel, hammer, etc.) to ensure this item installs properly. Here is my review. 1) This product looks good - polished and polished on the outside. As for strength, reliability and strength, time will tell. 2) The manufacturer could have made the latch shield recess a little deeper to accommodate all types of latches without allowing latch shield protrusions to interfere with door-to-jamb clearance. Also, I had to hollow out a large area on the front of the door to accommodate this recessed part, as its area is much larger and deeper than the size of the latch faceplate area. the area of the bracket where the screw holes have been drilled on the front to allow for an easier and tighter fit to the door. Another option was to hit the surface of the bracket to drive the protruding drilled metal burrs into the door. (see photos). 3) If your deadbolt is heavy duty with a thicker latch faceplate, the latch faceplate may protrude slightly, so you may need to install the jamb hasp deeper into the jamb. I managed to install 3 of these mounts. on existing doors, after doing the above work on each door and jamb yourself, total about 4 hours. Two more ahead. As a result, the product adheres very well to the doors, blends in well and really gives the door a more secure look. I'm not a carpenter and I modestly describe myself as an up-and-coming jack of all trades. I don't mind doing this job, but if you don't have a hand or don't have the time or the right tools, you might want to reconsider and order a second (flat clip) instead. Thanks for reading - I hope this helps.
