I installed this in a very large kennel (2nd largest kennel. German Shepherd). It's been up and running for a few weeks now and works great. Some of the bad reviews are from people who have used this without installing a kennel door. That's all I'll say about that. lol Installation requires a bit of thought and a special mount when used on igloo shaped houses. It took some time to figure out how high to mount it to keep it perpendicular enough to the curved interior of the house, but it's not rocket science. The hole you need to drill to get the cord out the back of the house should be the same size as the end of the plug leaving a fairly large hole for water and air, but I took a rubber plug the size of this. Hole. I drilled a hole in the center to match the size of the string. Then split this connector in half to insert the cable. All of this was connected to the back of the kennel and came out watertight and airtight. And it looks very professional. I will attach this photo. The stainless steel spring that protects the cable is useful, but be careful with it if you use it around chewing puppies. I tied the house to the back of the fence with a bungee, then cut a piece of plastic tubing to protect the cord that was still in the kennel and wrapped it in duct tape to keep it in place. (Note: the wire inside the house is not visible. This last addition was only for the wire outside.) I could easily have installed a heat lamp through the kennel ceiling, but my 40 years of sheepdog ownership didn't appeal to me. I've seen what can happen when one of these lights breaks. It would be difficult to make it waterproof. And a heat lamp placed near the dog will be too hot in my opinion. I just wish it was a little cheaper because I'm about to order another one for another kennel.
