It is very disappointing that Garmin - with possibly some of the best software you can find - cannot design and manufacture a working heart rate monitor strap for more than a few months. As for the other commenters, I take very good care of the strap, rinsing it out after each use and washing it once a week on a gentle cycle (cold water) with my cycling clothes. I remove the transmitter when not in use. I store it carefully so that it has no folds, creases or creases. But of course I have to manually check my heart rate for two months to make sure I'm not dead because my Edge bike computer says my heart has stopped! You can tighten the strap, use gel, shave chest hair etc etc and it doesn't help. Now I have a spare wheel in my pannier because I know I will have to replace it in 2-3 months.
