I think getting another one is a necessary evil.

I think getting one like this every year is a necessary evil. After ten months or a year, I became bad at reading. It came and went, or was unusually low for my efforts. I changed the battery in the sensor and it didn't help. I had this problem with my previous one and bought the whole sensor and strap. It turns out to be a strap. Bought new and the problem is gone. Only at the price of several thousand kilometers driven per year. I agree. Just think of it as a "consumable" in sports.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • There are downsides

Really good strap but it doesn't last forever.

I had several spare tapes due to the same issue. I'm starting to get dropouts in the data. One minute everything is going great on your ride, the next you're looking at your Garmin and your heart rate is 50 bpm at 22 mph. Now we all know that's impossible. I have had to order this 5 times in the last 6 years which means they are used for less than a year before they fail. Considering that my Garmin Edge 1000 isn't a problem, I equate this to poor MFG processes. What Garmin calls premium has a…

Comfortable but unreliable - now on my third strap and same issues.

Either a design flaw or quality control flaw that makes these harnesses unreliable. I've now had my third strap in eight months and the same problems persist: 1. The strap shows a low heart rate (usually 72) until 10-15 minutes of use.2. The bracelet stops measuring the heart rate after a few hours, showing 72.3. To be honest the strap works perfectly half the time. But 50% is a bad estimate! Garmin changed the band twice for free, but I really don't want to change it every four months! Today…

Works perfectly! Follow the washing instructions!

I am very happy with this harness. It works great. It replaced an old bracelet that fell apart after about 5 years (I think). I'm no longer an avid biker/runner/swimmer, but I still keep a close eye on my workouts. I think it's a great fitness tracker and improvement tool. My only warning: follow the washing instructions carefully. Went almost a month without washing. I started smelling what looked like a school locker room (and I blamed the unclean pagans I was training with). It turned out to

Some of the best programs you can find can't design and make a heart.

It's very disappointing that Garmin - with arguably one of the best software products - can't design and manufacture a heart rate monitor strap that lasts more than a few months. As for the other commenters, I take very good care of the strap, rinsing it out after each use and washing it once a week on a gentle cycle (cold water) with my cycling clothes. I remove the transmitter when not in use. I store it carefully so that it has no folds, creases or creases. But of course I have to manually…

Upgrade your broken heart rate sensor

This heart rate sensor strap was released in May 2013. This allows you to update your old Garmin Premium heart rate monitor (soft band) to the latest version. This new band has three electrical skin contact points instead of two and is clearly marked to distinguish left from right. You should buy this product (without transmitter) if you want to fix your broken Garmin heart rate monitor. If you need a full Garmin heart rate monitor, we recommend purchasing a new padded transmitter strap. The…

Poor Performance: Fitness Technology

I'm writing this review to express my dislike for the Garmin Fenix 5x Sapphire that I bought earlier this year and the heart rate monitor and replacement. I bought three replacement monitors from Revain. Although I bought the watch directly from Garmin along with an original Garmin Premium heart rate monitor, I feel compelled to share my experience on all of the above with the Revain family. Watch. This is truly a "sports" watch. The possibilities for data are numerous. However, the heart rate…

Poor performance best for exercise and fitness

I have purchased three replacement Revain monitors. Although I bought the watch directly from Garmin along with an original Garmin Premium heart rate monitor, I feel compelled to share my experience on all of the above with the Revain family. Watch. This is truly a "sports" watch. The possibilities for data are numerous. However, the heart rate monitor is annoying. And if the heart rate monitor doesn't work, then this watch's capabilities are superfluous or unnecessary. I usually run heart rate
