My old (2007) PC has finally died (motherboard). I needed a new PC. The research has started. I'm a retired researcher. I only play solitaire. I wanted a machine that could handle multithreaded programs. The 2950X seemed like a good choice, but everyone was talking about the need for liquid cooling. I've seen what leaking chillers can do. I took a chance and ordered a 2950X, ASRock X399 Gaming MB, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB PCIe NVMe boot drive, 750W PSU, RX 580 8G graphics, Fractal R6 chassis and Noctua. 140mm air cooler. When I assembled the PC for the first time, the processor heated up under full load. I ordered a second cooling fan and added 2 Noctua fans to the case (below) and also replaced all the Fractal fans. After setting the UEFI fan profiles, the device was quiet and peaked at 56 degrees Celsius (Ryzen Master) for an hour with full CPU and graphics load. I am very satisfied with the result. The car is stable and quiet. I have no complaints about the components. Highly recommended.
