RIP Intel Computers & Accessories

One of the best affordable processors that money can buy. Can do anything including CAD modelling/rendering, 4k/8k editing, gaming, streaming, virtual machines. Worth it if you are interested in video editing, 3D modeling or just love amazing technology. Much better than any Intel i9. The chip must be installed correctly and screwed into the TR4 socket. Otherwise not all memory modules will be read and all sorts of problems can occur. This chip loves low latency C14 memory for infinite fabric…

The Threadripper 2950x is a gem and a stubborn rig.

Thing is a beast but its socket is not standard, push down and you're done. At least that's all the personal processor chips I've had. This one in particular has this orange Allen wrench tool that you have to screw in in a specific order to get it to fit properly. You need to start evenly and then proceed sequentially until the top of the screwdriver clicks. I followed that and still had to repot the thing. This involved nervously reassembling my motherboard and gradually plugging things in as…

Processor is great but it must be fragile when shipping

Processor is great for workstation, buyers make sure you combine it with good RAM and M.Board. The processor is knocked out of the Threadripper packaging, more care is required during transport and packaging.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Compatibility

Amazing processor, but RESEARCH

I love that enterprise-class hardware is now available to the masses at insane prices ($850 vs. $1800 for the i9-7960X), but it's also phasing out problem for people who "better" without properly setting up their PC, resulting in a poor experience. Here is a short list of recommendations: 1. Make sure your motherboard has the latest BIOS updates especially if it's a first generation Threadripper board. Although compatible with Gen 2 Ryzen, it may not work without updating the BIOS first. Make…

Great performance at a great price!

2950x is a great CPU at a much better price than the 1950x. The only complaint is that in some cases it's "not easy" to overclock to the advertised 4.4GHz single-core clock speed. In general, this chip is quite fast, very powerful and much less gluttonous than the previous generation. It works particularly well with both workstation workloads and the gaming applications you play in and single-machine streaming. Another 4.4GHz clock speed mystery: you need a good motherboard with a really strong

Great air-cooled processor!

My old (2007) PC has finally died (motherboard). I needed a new PC. The research has started. I'm a retired researcher. I only play solitaire. I wanted a machine that could handle multithreaded programs. The 2950X seemed like a good choice, but everyone was talking about the need for liquid cooling. I've seen what leaking chillers can do. I took a chance and ordered a 2950X, ASRock X399 Gaming MB, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB PCIe NVMe boot drive, 750W PSU, RX 580 8G graphics, Fractal R6 chassis and…

Lives up to the hype in the right circumstances

I'm more than happy with my TR2950X, but it's not the right processor for everyone. I bought this processor for 4K+ video editing and color grading and it delivers without breaking a sweat. With DaVinci Resolve I can render 4K, 5K and most 6K RED footage in Full Res/Premium quality in real time. In fact, I can play back two streams of 4K/23.98 RED frames in real time, allowing for decompositing and compositing without the need for caching/rendering. It also suppresses video encoding and…

Over 3000 on Cinibench before overclocking! ONLY BUY! Wonderful!

LOVE! Incredibly suitable for 3D modeling, 4K graphic design editing and GAMING! Over 3000 on Cinibench BEFORE overclocking! Plays games flawlessly at Ultra 4K settings paired with a 1080ti. Great value compared to similar Intel processors with more cores and half the price! Highly, highly recommended for anyone who can squeeze this guy into a budget.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

Increase my creativity when writing homework

I bought a 2950x a few weeks ago. The performance I experience is amazing. This processor has doubled my paper writing speed. 16 cores make me feel like the boss at many college parties. Why do you need a girlfriend when you have the legendary thread cutter?

Pros
  • Many will do
Cons
  • Poor set
