I'm more than happy with my TR2950X, but it's not the right processor for everyone. I bought this processor for 4K+ video editing and color grading and it delivers without breaking a sweat. With DaVinci Resolve I can render 4K, 5K and most 6K RED footage in Full Res/Premium quality in real time. In fact, I can play back two streams of 4K/23.98 RED frames in real time, allowing for decompositing and compositing without the need for caching/rendering. It also suppresses video encoding and transcoding tasks. This processor completely destroys my Xeon-based systems for significantly less money. However, if you don't take full advantage of this processor, it might be slower than the mainstream model. For example, when running in HD my older i7-7700K based Avid Symphony systems outperform this processor due to higher clock speeds. Also, Threadrippers are more difficult to cool than mainstream processors, which can lead to throttling and performance degradation if not planned appropriately. So, before you hop on the promotional bandwagon, make sure you have a plan on how to take advantage of the raw performance this CPU is capable of and don't let most of it go to waste. However, if you have high-level computing tasks or multitasking, then this processor is a fantastic choice.
