Review on πŸ’» Cable Matters 4 Port USB 3.0 Switch Hub for 4 Computers and USB Peripherals - Button or Wireless Remote Control Swapping - USB-C Adapter Included by Jeremy Romero

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Has issues with Logitech Brio otherwise good little product

I had high hopes but as other reviews have reported this device keeps disconnecting and reconnecting USB 3.0 devices like the Brio webcam, if the host device is a windows system. After I wrote my initial review, the Cable Matters support team contacted me and pre-shipped me a standalone USB-C power cord + 5W power adapter and custom USB 2.0 extension cable to solve my issue. I really appreciate this level of support! With the USB 2.0 extension cable, I no longer suffer from reconnecting/disconnecting the Brio webcam, but since it's forced to USB 2.0, it can't use the USB 3.0 baud rate. which limits the ability to use 4K video streams. Luckily I don't need them today, so this device works even when it's not being used to its full potential. In general: I like devices of this class; I love having buttons to switch directly to a device and the support for 4 upstream devices is great (I have 3 upstream devices that I switch between on a daily basis). Location of the downstream port "OK". I want some of them to face the back of the unit to make desktop cable management a little easier (you can see some of the wires in the photo that need to unfold). I'd be happy to pay a little more. for the version of this device that fixes the main problem with Brio and has 10 downstream ports; some on the back (next to the upstream ports) and some on the front as this helps reduce desk clutter; I connected a second hub to it and it would be nice to unify and simplify the desktop.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
