Review on Melissa & Doug Solid Wood Table and 2 Chairs Set - Light Finish: Perfect Playroom Furniture for Kids by Jim Worthington

good material for kids furniture

I bought this product considering the cost of designing and building something like this from scratch. I have come to the conclusion that buying it would be the best use of my time and money. I will give it to our two year old grandson. I just collected it. I was very impressed with the quality and finish. The instructions were very clear. It was easy to assemble and durable when complete. There was one screw that was slightly misaligned so the head couldn't fit fully into the countersunk hole. He was still dragging himself. To accommodate my psychological needs I glued the joints, but I'm sure it will stick very well without glue. The description doesn't mention the type of finish so I think I'll cover the countertop with polyurethane for durability. It took about 30 minutes to assemble and clean the package. A good product. Supplement - I applied polyurethane to the table top, the seats of the chairs and the back of the chair, which the child will easily lean on (cleaned). I apply a second coat to the same spots with a spray can (same product etc.). The second coat was fine but I had some spray left so I covered the chair backs, table legs etc. This lifted the factory finish in a few places and left a whitish color in places. Maybe they use a lighter topcoat on the non-touching parts of the parts. I'm still glad I used polyurethane because it offers a more durable surface, but thought some people might want to know about this result.
