I've been using Salt Off for about two years now so I'd like to share a few key points with you. Firstly, I've seen reviews where the Salt Off brand applicator broke. I'm not sure if this is just an accident or if these people abuse their applicator (dropping it, stepping on it, storing it with heavy equipment like anchors, steel anchor rods or whatever) but I've had in the last two years no problems with mine. I haven't had any issues with leaks either, so I think the o-ring in those "leaky" applicators in the reviews fell out or got damaged when trying to tighten the reservoir when the o-ring wasn't seated properly . I am calling a custom error as my applicator is working great with no leaks! The next point I want to make is that this stuff works! If you don't use this you are abusing your boat as there is simply NO way to completely wash away the salt that has dried in the crevices (remember where the spring cable tips meet the fiberglass, or the railings or whatever) with fresh water always). that's metal). If you have cracking rust the answer is simple; Salt traps moisture remaining in these cracks and corrodes metal (even stainless steel). I'm in Southwest Florida and I can tell you that by the time I leave the main waterways and bang my arm (slow speed) in the scorching sun and return to my dock, most of the salt spray will have evaporated. Dried and salt deposits remain everywhere. Fresh water will wash this off large surfaces with ease, but dried hard salt in crevices you can't see with the naked eye will trap water in each crystal and over time erode the metal. The salt will quickly dissolve the salt crystals stuck in the crevices, allowing you to effectively rinse the salt away. For this to work properly, you need to understand that the salt MUST STILL RINSE. Salt Away will dissolve the salt crystals, but if you just let it dry OR don't rinse it enough, or gravity pulls it down and REMOVES it from the boat, then you're wasting your Salt Off money. . It also means you have to start at the highest point of the boat and work your way down (if you wash low and then go higher, your wash salt will return to the previously salt-free surface). Salt Off is by no means cheap BUT when used properly, it is not as expensive as it may seem. Here's what I found out. When using any feature on the atomizer head other than the "MIST" setting, use multiple applicator reservoirs full of Salt Off in ONE job! I have a 25ft boat and went through three applicator tanks to finish working on the "shower" setting. The price goes up fast! However, when I use the mist function to apply Salt Off first and THEN use the flush setting (flush creates a central jet of high pressure water) to flush the crevices and then flush the entire boat thoroughly so that all of the salt is lowered to the bottom side of my boat in the bay or on deck, in the scuppers and out in the bay, I can flush my entire boat in HALF the tank and leave the other half to flush my Yamaha outboard. We use our boat quite a bit - 6 to 10 days a month in summer depending on what's going on. My last pack of Salt Off lasted 6 months. So again, if used correctly, it's more cost effective than the original price suggests. Finally, if you want to know why salt causes such metal corrosion, and for a more scientific explanation of how Salt Away works (including PTFE coating), just google "how salt removal works" to prevent it. I know what Salt Away said, but Starbrite makes Salt Away, so it's the same product. I learned a lot and it saved me a lot of corrosion stress.
