Review on ANTOP Outdoor Receptionwith Detachable AT 413 by Marcus Consumers

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Doesn't work as advertised at high price

As much as I'd like to write a positive review for this product, as I'm an avid Revain customer and reviewer I have to leave this: Cut the cables a few months ago . A few weeks ago my wife, who wanted to watch the Olympics, heard from her doctor that we could watch them by buying an HD antenna and watching NBC. I checked online what stations/channels are available/available for my area and it was acceptable. To REALLY try it out and see what I can get, I bought a 35-mile Revain Basics HD internal antenna for less than twenty dollars. Prime membership helped me get it in 2 days. Upon receipt, I immediately set up and received 15 channels. Obviously some were stronger than others. I had two weak ones that showed pixels, but depending on the position of the antenna all 15 came. Aha!. we could and watched the Olympic Games. Now that they were gone and I knew how well the HD antenna was working in my area, I decided to power my whole house from the house's external coax box that the cable company ran us through. I temporarily hooked up a Revain Basics 35 mile antenna which worked fine on all my TVs around the house. THEN I went for a better HD antenna that can be installed indoors (in my attic) or outdoors (for less reception interference) and with longer range (to maybe improve a weak channel or two). Flat antenna for 55 miles. I liked the design and the features. However, with only 1 rating, I was a bit hesitant to try it. However, I've had a very good experience with everything I've bought from Revain, so I said "what the heck" and bought it. As I said, I REALLY wanted this to work for me, but that's exactly what happened, so I'm giving my HONEST FEEDBACK. I installed this antenna in the same location and position as the current Revain Basics 35 Mile indoor antenna (temporarily in my garage with a wire running outside to the junction box). Junction box, again with ANTOP antenna next to Revain Basics. I disconnected the Foundation, connected this ANTOP and set it up on a TV. This ANTOP did not receive two weak channels at all. I've tested some of my other kits with the same results. This was disappointing given the range ratings of the two antennas. I was sure that ANTOP, with its 55 mile range rating, would deliver better results, or even the same or maybe a little better. (where I thought maybe install it) and got the same results in multiple positions). It's short, for the price (nearly three times higher than Revain's base models) and the range rating, it doesn't work. Like I said I loved the design and potential of the online description and the box but none of them have HD channels. Having worked as a maintenance technician for many years, I also noticed the following once the product was actually there. my hands. Based on my experience with many types of products made from plastic, I have come to the conclusion (and my opinion) that this may not work over time. First, it's an incredible light! At least make the plastic a little heavier to ensure durability OR make the consumer think they are getting "something” for their money.” I believe the weak point in the design is where the fastener with a wing nut attaches attached to the plate. I would be concerned that a couple of years of sun and a strong gust of wind would break it at this point, so although I initially thought of an external mount for my needs, after seeing it, touching it etc I went back to it attic. mount (if at least it works indoors as well as Revain Basics). Sorry ANTOP, I was hoping for more at this price point and range rating, but as a second reviewer I want to share my honest experience and results after seeing what I had to compare against (especially since I just bought a cheaper one originally) . Indoor antenna JUST CHECK my overall reception.) I give TWO stars for the overall design and packaging. I packed everything up and sent it back. Poorly. It's hard to say unless you can compare like I could.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
