Review on πŸ§ͺ Seachem Alkaline Buffer 10.5oz / 300g by Stacy Sturm

This material is very suitable for freshwater aquariums.

I use quite a few Sea Chem products. Some are better than others, but all seem useful together or individually. This alkaline buffer is excellent for maintaining the stability of buffer minerals and pH levels in aquariums that become more acidic and softer over time. pH tends to decrease. This alkaline buffer contains more minerals to restore hardness and pH stability in your aquarium. It is a very fine powder and dissolves very well in water, especially running water. A dose or two throughout the day for my aquariums can bring my pH back from 6.8 to 7.4 slowly enough not to harm the fish. I have found that the fish I usually keep are more active in slightly alkaline water. It can also be increased to acclimate fish to hard, alkaline water, while many cities use softer, acidic tap water. to help keep it at those 7.2 ph levels or higher for longer. I really like this product. Depending on the season, my tap water has a pH of 7.4 to 8.2. But my tap water has very little buffering minerals (carbonate hardness) so my nitrogen cycle in my tanks works and within a short period of time my tank becomes more acidic and much softer. This product completely solves this problem for me. If you want your water to be neutral 7.0 or more acidic and softer, there are opposing Seachem products, primarily acid buffers. Some people mix combinations of chemicals in proportions to achieve the exact pH and hardness desired. In my case I almost always just need to adjust the pH and hardness towards higher alkalinity, so I only use Seachem alkaline buffer. One of the 10.5 ounce, 300 gram bottles holds approximately 3400 liters or 900 gallons of water. However, you may need to take more than once to reach your desired level, so you may want to use more than one dose. If you have even bigger tanks, they sell even bigger bottles. This product is excellent for creating an alkaline aquarium for invertebrates such as snails and shrimp. This is much better than using dissolving shells or spheres. However, I advise you to be careful when using this alkaline buffer as it will dissolve very quickly in your aquarium water. So don't overload your aquarium if you already have a tank of live plants and animals to quickly increase your numbers. Take regular doses over time until you achieve what you want. Rapid changes in pH and hardness can kill both plants and animals. So take your time with this product because it works very quickly. I only have fresh water tanks. This product is only suitable for fresh water. Saltwater aquariums have a very high pH value and are very hard. This product is not intended for ship tanks. Just use this for your fresh water tanks.

Pros
  • PLANT AQUARIUM: These buffers are designed for aquariums with plants or very hard water where phosphate buffers can cause algae or turbidity problems.
Cons
  • Very Expensive
