Replaces the plastic wheels the chair came with. It's quieter, but not as quiet as I would like. It is used on an aged hickory wood floor, so perhaps the slightly uneven profile of the wood contributes to the noise. Updated 9/2020. Those are actually pretty bad wheels. They make a lot more noise than others I've bought. They were used on the second floor wooden floor and the noise from them was very loud downstairs. If you take a closer look at them and compare them with the ones I bought new, you can see clear differences in quality. They're cheaply made and the bearings aren't tightly pressed, everything screams cheapness. The new ones are indeed much quieter in the room and the background noise downstairs is also significantly lower. The new ones I bought were Stealthos.
