I bought this for my Trek 3500 disc. I lived in an apartment for a few years and had to park the bike on the balcony. The chain is rusty. Eventually I bit the bullet and bought a new chain and associated tools (breakers, chain wear tool). Doesn't matter. I used a chain wear tool first to see if it really needs replacing or just cleaning and lubricating. It had to be replaced. I was able to remove the rusty chain with a crowbar. I then measured the old chain against the new chain and noted where I thought I would have to shorten the new chain. Unknowingly I made a chain of exactly the same length but didn't check how the chain was put together and couldn't use the magic link to connect them. I had to remove another section of chain. Once I figured that out, installing the new chain was no problem. I then lubricated the new chain with Teflon chain wax. After waiting the required 30 minutes for the wax to dry, I went for a walk. What a huge difference. It moved like new and was very quiet. I don't know about durability yet, but I don't put my bike on huge miles, like 20-50 a week on the flat roads of South Florida, so I don't think that will be an issue.
