Review on Whistler CR93 Laser Radar Detector by Hassan Tomlinson

This is a first time review of the Whistler CR85 which I just received yesterday and which I am sitting alongside my old Escort 8500 x 50 Black on car and Using CR85 on the "Autobahn" On my first drive I met several local LEOs whose Ka's were constantly moving, as they almost always do, approaching the front and back at different times, and one was actually parked and across the traffic fired. everything is as i expected after reading tons of reviews, technical reviews, watching youtube videos etc. CR85 (with TFSR enabled and all other default filter settings) produces fewer false positives, especially on the K-band, and sometimes on the X-band the Alerts I get Escort makes no sound on the Whistler CR85 On the Ka band the escort usually alerts first but the whistler chirps et second or third grade on the escort scale. I attribute this to Whistler initially dismissing it as false until it is strong enough to detect a specific frequency which the old escort does not offer? I think if I was driving at freeway speeds with off axis radar on ramps etc I would pack an escort and put up with the fakes but the reason I went shopping was because I mostly drive in the city and the K-band fakes of modern are cars with lane departure warning and emergency braking function drove me crazy. This is where TFSR was really important, it was off by default and I got similar false alerts for the Escort, but on my next pass through the same area on my test drive I toggled the feature on and it worked. works just as i expected, much quieter than the escort. I will be driving with the dual detector for a few more days before making my final decision as every radar detection is different. Haven't seen a true K-band LEO signal yet, only automatic door openers at the grocery store/pharmacy as I drive down the street with an escort alarm and whistle on low. I'm not saying you won't get false positives from the Whistler, especially with the various laser and radar-based features found on newer cars, but you should get fewer from this mid-range detector than you would from an older, high-end IF you've set it up. To the right. If TFSR doesn't calm the CR85 down enough, I can always try City1 or City2 mode, increase the filtering, or turn off the K and/or X ranges with just a few button presses. The build quality and materials are a notch below the Escort but perfect for this price point and don't expect any durability issues. I also liked the fact that both a cigarette lighter cable and a straight wire were included, as well as a non-slip pad on the dashboard. Updated 01/31/19. After another month of use I always have a whistler in the dash and save my old Escort for highway trips where I'm likely to be speeding and need maximum range Ka detection. It's a compromise, long range detection means more perceived false positives where you never see a cop even if they're actually some distance away or off axis.
