Review on Royal & Langnickel Mini Tin Sketching Art Set by Andrea Lee

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Don't buy if you want nice opaque color.

I'm wondering if this small travel size tin did not contain the same quality of paint as the larger, more expensive sets. I always thought this was a professional grade watercolor. I am so disappointed in these & let down asI was pretty exited to try some good quality watercolors. I've always done what I could with the sets you remember as a kid. Even in a class, the "real" artists looked sideways at my little tin. So I finally convinced myself higher quality might produce better art. I guess I forgot that higher price does not always reflect quality. These paints are grainy. I couldn't get a nice flowing line out of any color. They also don't give you a rich color. Even when I re-painted over dry color I ended up with transparent, washed out color. I am so glad I didn't buy the full set. I'd be p****d instead of just bummed. Back to my kid set, I guess.

Pros
  • 1 12V batteries required.
Cons
  • The set does not include erasers, sharpeners, or other essential tools that artists may need while working on their projects
