A bad design flaw!

First off, this stand is very well made, very reliable, easy to assemble and doesn't require a lot of extra weight. It's really good in every way except one, and that turns out to be a HUGE design flaw. At maximum separation, the bottom of the two sets of "chutes" are vertically 31 inches apart. Anyone who owns 30 inch wide kayaks will love this thing. We prefer wider and more stable kayaks (34 inches) and you can't put it on the ground, it won't fit. Instead of sending it back (like I said, I really like it aside from that flaw) I then drilled an extra set of holes in the bottom of the vertical brace (as viewed from the bottom of the stand in the second picture). Using a hacksaw along I cut out a notch in the bottom of the support tube to match the scarf. at the bottom of the vertical bracket (first image). This process gave me an additional 6 inches of clearance (now 37 inches instead of 31 inches). The fact that they didn't bother to make the vertical struts six inches longer or drill an extra set of holes in the bottom of the vertical strut just seems like an epidemic of lazy final design checks. If you have narrow kayaks, you should definitely buy this thing if you have width dont do it or get ready to do some work.
