Review on πŸ’» SABRENT Tool-Free External Hard Drive Enclosure 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0 [Optimized for SSD, UASP SATA III Support] - Black (EC-UASP) by Mario Beckwith

Permanent damage to SSD drives and data. Stay away. Replaced by StarTech hulls.

Hands off. I needed to create offline backup media to protect a client from ransomware. I chose (2) 4TB Samsung Pro Series SSDs and a Sabrent case to start the proof of concept. Everything seemed to work at first, but I noticed that when I reused the drive, it found that the drive needed to be formatted, even though it had already been formatted and safely ejected before ejecting. I tested this for a month, trying different computers and different cables. About 8 times out of 10 I would have to reformat. I also tried restoring backups and there were some cases where the backup file got corrupted. I replaced the cases with StarTech cases and also bought a new PC with a Thunderbolt port connected to StarTech. In the two weeks of using the new case, I haven't had a single problem. The test restores worked and the drives never had to be reformatted. The transmission speed was also much faster. I understand that these cases are not business or enterprise grade, but in my experience they are not stable at all and I have tested two of them on two different new machines. If you use them, be sure to double check your details. In my opinion you pay a little more and get a more stable product. For me it was this product: StarTech.com 2.5" SATA USB 3.1 Gen 2 Hard Drive Enclosure - with USB Type-C to Type-A Cable - USB 3.0 Backward Compatible (S251BU31315) Below are other reviewers with similar issues to mine.
