The idea of using special tools with pan pastels is a good one, and the larger sponges seem strong enough. My experience with small sponges that are suitable for hand tools shows that even with moderately careful use, these break more quickly. The paper I used was 140 lb watercolor paper, not the heavier dental paper, so I was surprised and disappointed that the little tool sponges didn't last longer. The little tools were useful for applying pastel to small areas and if their little sponge applicators were more durable I would rate this product much higher.
