Review on NEWCARE Extractor Converter Optical Adapter by Leon Johnsson

UPDATE - apparently the box doesn't support the HDMI arc function. Works great as HDMI described below, but I was limited to getting audio to a connected device. When I connected to the TV Arc Out to stream audio from any devices connected directly to the TV, the Arc was not working. with any settings to produce an optical output. ARC works with my soundbar but not with this box. The arc on/off and channel switching settings as well as the PCM setting on the TV did not work. Came back to find one with working ARC support. Original review: Fantastic little metal box. My old Denon AVR doesn't read HDMI audio so I'm relying on optical. Unfortunately, my TV only outputs PCM (2.1) via optical, so my AVR didn't have full 5.1 sound. Once I install this guy Dolby Digital reappears on the AVR and I hear an INSTANT improvement in sound quality with no loss in picture quality. Plug the Firestick straight into the box and use the HDMI out for the TV and the optical out for the AVR. 4K60 also works great with HDR. Also watch Netflix and HBO Max Dolby Digital+ via the optical connection. Many of these converters have problems with this as they cannot handle Dolby Digital+ on the optical channel when set to 5.1. -1 star for quality: The supplied HDMI cable technically works in 4K HDR, but is very cheap and unlabeled. I tested it but didn't leave it installed. The optical cable was fine and the inclusion of both and the power supply was a nice bonus. Tends to compete with J-tecx model, but too many complaints about bad blocks or premature failure.
