A few years ago I bought a set of knives from Amway and the instructions said they should be sharpened by a professional rather than using a home sharpener. Since I couldn't find professional knife sharpeners (I didn't try), my knives kept getting dumber without my even noticing. Trying to cut raw sweet potatoes was eye opening. Amway no longer sells these knives and I thought I needed to invest in a quality ($$$) set but just didn't want to spend the money. I bought this sharpener after reading a few reviews about it but it arrived during sick week so it stayed in its box for a couple of weeks before I took it out and watched the video for the instructions. The video was simple but informative and I poked slots #1 and #2 ten times with a knife. Holy cow. The difference in just this slight sharpness was striking. Then I grabbed every sharp knife I had in the kitchen, serrated and all, and pierced the device with them. It was easy, quick and the results were amazing. I have to go back to some of them and give them a few more runs, but the video says to start with 5 or 10 and see if that's good enough for your purpose, which is what I did. I hope this sharpener lasts a long time because I don't think I'd want to be without it.
