Affordable 4TB hard drive, quiet and easy to install

I recently purchased this LaCie hard drive to use with my iMac for Time Machine backups. It replaces a 3TB LaCie d2 Thunderbolt-2 desktop hard drive that I have used for this purpose for the past 3.5 years. This Thunderbolt drive worked reliably and was completely filled with backups stored on it for the period until a few weeks ago when I started having problems with my computer suddenly freezing during browser sessions. I finally determined that the problem was with the LaCie hard drive - after trying various things I unplugged it and the problem went away. I don't know if this drive will continue to work properly after reformatting and trying to use it again, but given the age of the drive I decided to replace it with a larger drive. Installation was easy and straightforward. My drive was up and running within minutes of plugging it in, and I set up Time Machine to create a new backup to start working on that new drive. LaCie offers a three-year warranty, and registering on the LaCie website is easy. The warranty period is 2 years, which is less than the 3 years of the more expensive d2 models. They take up more desk space than the d2 models, and LaCie's online instructions state that these drives should not be stacked on top of each other. Nothing is said about placing the hard drive vertically on the desktop, so I didn't. There are no actual instructions, just a printed, simple graphical quick start guide on the inside of the box that contains the power adapter and USB cable. LaCie website I now use this drive with my LaCie d2 9000529 USB 3.0 (3TB) Desktop Hard Drive where I store my iTunes collection. At just over a hundred dollars for 4TB, this Porsche Design drive is cheaper than either of the LaCie d2 models and I think it's a very smart choice. Now I've tried the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 versions of the LaCie d2 drives and this Porsche Design model is the latest addition. I expect this hard drive will serve me well for years to come. I'm giving 4 stars as I haven't used it long enough to warrant a higher rating. I will come back and update this review when I use it for a longer period of time to include any comments worth sharing.
