Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ StarTech.com USB 3.0 Dual DisplayPort Adapter 4K 60Hz, DisplayLink Certified Video Converter with External Graphics Card - Mac & PC (USB32DP24K60) by Angel Gibson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

amazing and works but not working after two weeks (returned)

I used to have an adapter that only worked at 30Hz and after changing it to this (ie 60Hz) I was very impressed. While the USB adapter isn't ideal for all types of 4k content such as videos and graphics, my use of floating text and mouse/window work is perfect. I'm using this because the type-c ports burned out on my expensive ultrabook. Work successfully! A cheap $100 repair for what will likely cost a brand new motherboard or laptop. UPDATE IN 1 WEEK. I changed my rating to 4 instead of 5 stars. The device began to fail and eventually failed completely after about an hour. Application. I have returned the item. I'm going to buy another one and then see if it fails the same way in a couple of weeks. Check back in about a month for an updated review. UPDATE AFTER REPLACING A DEVICE I am currently using a replacement for the last device I used. It's only been two days so I'll update this review in a couple of weeks to report what has changed since then. So far there have been no unusual failures. I found that the extra heat from the laptop charging is due to the adapter failing. So far this hasn't failed unless the laptop changes and the physical heat of the SSD and 4 cores rises and stays at or above 50 degrees Celsius. UPDATE IN 2 WEEKS: I've been using the adapter during my shift (see note above) and it doesn't seem to have any impact on crashes. Maybe its temperature, but my final hypothesis is that the data transfer rate between my USB 3.0 and 4k 60 fps monitor is not the same; 600MB for USB3, 3.4GB for Displayport. The adapter would crash when playing videos or media, but for static spreadsheets, documents and web browsing it seems fine! UPDATE AFTER THREE MONTHS: I can use the adapter for at least a few hours under low usage before it fails. Unfortunately, when it inevitably crashes, my computer is free half the time and I have to completely restart it. I noticed the ominous "black box" of this adapter that heats up after use, so maybe cooling it down would help mitigate the crashes? Or maybe just use "break" every now and then?
