Review on πŸ’§ EKWB EK M.2 NVMe Heatsink Nickel by Dragan Nelson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Other reviews are correct.

When I bought it I thought that the others who left reviews were just incompetent in the installation. While I didn't damage my SSD in the process, as some have claimed, I struggled to install it on my 970 Evo Plus. The packaging is minimal, the instructions are minimal, and the device itself is minimal. They give you two strips of thermal pad (1mm and 0.5mm thick), you need to look at the thickness to determine which is which (they are not labeled). The plastic covers on either side of the thermal pads can be difficult to remove, there is no tab or anything to make removal easier. and you need to cut them to length first. Once you have everything set up, put the backplate, thermal pad, SSD, thermal pad, and heatsink together like a sloppy roast beef sandwich and hold it in place while you try to get the spring retainer. If you look closely at the staples, the top edges are curved differently. The side that curves down goes first, and the opposite side that curves down and then comes back up goes second, since its curve helps avoid the edges. However, I easily installed the first bracket while having to manipulate the second bracket a bit with pliers to get it around the device. It didn't really solve my heat issues, it dropped maybe 2 or 3 degrees. Celsius. At $15 it's not cheap at all, but I don't know if it's worth the end result - especially the 30 minutes it took to install.
