GENERAL Get box. Don't be cheap (like me). Skip the $3-4 coffee at Starbucks and make something better at home with a clean machine. MY STORY I live in a place where the water is good. The taste is pleasant, you can drink from the tap without hesitation. For some reason I was too lazy to maintain my Cuisinart coffee maker even though it is one of the most used and important machines in my daily life (alongside my computer). MY OPINION For those wondering if these carbon water filters are worth buying, go for it! I've waited too long When I looked at the one I had in my car, it was VERY nasty. These substitutes are quite cheap. I bought a few, cleaned the car, ran a vinegar and water cycle (which I've never done before), and put in a new filter. The coffee was better. OTHER WHAT I HAVE TRYED After searching online I also realized that maybe I should clean my coffee pot. I cleaned the pot with chopsticks after running it through the circuit (to have warm water inside). I know some tea drinkers are fanatical about drinking just one type of tea in a teapot and creating a layer of leftovers that yields a stronger flavor (of that particular tea). Having switched coffee types over the past few years, I wanted to start fresh and create a new shift. It was also a great initiative. The taste is much fresher. Moral of the criticism: take activated carbon filters, use the vinegar cycle, wipe out the whole car and scrub out the pan. UPDATE 10/29/2012: I bought another box of these filters. because it is extremely important to me to keep the pot clean and fresh. I used to be lazy until I bought new filters and did a vinegar cycle (1:3 mix with water) which changed the taste a lot. A friend who owned a coffee shop gave me an even better trick. Buy Urnex Cafiza Powder, 20 oz! Ignore the recommendation for an espresso machine and don't try to clean the coffee pot with wooden spoons or chopsticks. This powder freshly wiped my coffee machine and coffee pot in one go. Enjoy a cup of delicious coffee now! Wonderful!
