There is a switch on the cable but no documentation mentions the function. I think I found this out by searching the BMW forums. Four position switch but only two functions. Good. Another thing is the crappy version of BMW's tools. He really prefers Windows XP. I need to install peripheral software after running it in compatibility mode as administrator. But the INPA software section was not installed. Windows 10 continued to insist that the program contained a virus or unwanted software. After disabling the antivirus software and trying 5 or 6 times, I gave up and turned to other sources for software. Spent a few hours playing around with it. The cable appears to be of good quality. It took a lot of fiddling to find drivers for Windows 10, but I was able to find them in the end. In short, look elsewhere. I'm not impressed.
