I do chores and like to build scale models. I used a plastic ruler and a 75 year old micrometer that I inherited from my father over the past 30 years. This digital caliper is definitely an evolution of the previous technology. It is VERY quick to take a measurement and easy to read that measurement. Has internal and external measurements and depth measurements. I can reset it anytime. Reads millimeters, fractional inches, digital inches. I've used this to measure thin things like styrene sheets that I use in modeling. It seems to go well with the old screw gauge micrometer for this. Aside from the fact that using a digital caliper is SO FAST! I chose this model because it came with a plastic case. The case is of fairly cheap construction, but I definitely prefer having a case to just tossing the tool in the toolbox when I'm done with it.
