The Dimascus pattern is beautiful and the knife is very sharp right out of the box.

I haven't used the knife yet but I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure if the VG10 is from Japan, it's probably the Chinese version; if it is to keep its edge well. I like the black G-10 pen, it's supposed to last forever. I recently bought and use a set of German Hammer Stahl knives. I am adding Japanese style knives to my collection and will be making a magnetic knife block to display them. I am moving to a new house in a year and am saving my Japanese style collection for the new kitchen. I didn't buy a chef's knife for the collection, but I prefer the Bob Thomas design.
