Play: harder than it looks! The rings are strong enough to withstand certain throwing techniques, but soft enough not to mark walls. The 20 inch size is great. Smaller sizes, maybe for a small child's room or where you only have a few meters of space. We're using a 20" board that's 6 feet apart, and you'll need about an extra foot for your elbow or wind-up position. Materials: Well built, thick wood and good hardware. Sturdy, pre-installed hangers attach to a nail or hook. A few strips of Command Velcro should hold it in place if you want to avoid nail holes, but you'll need to remove the installed hanging hook (3 screws) to get it laying flat against the wall. Assembling the ring hooks was easy. The drill holes were straight and accurate. I started by hand inserting each hook, then carefully finished with pliers so as not to damage my fingertips. The flange at the top of the thread ensures you stop at the correct depth. The numbers appear to be screen-printed under a light layer of varnish. Outdoors: Outdoor use is certainly okay, but should of course not be left out in bad weather. Heirloom Quality: There's no reason why this fun game won't last a lifetime.
