I recently bought my first Canon Rebel XSi DSLR and found that most of my action shots were pretty blurry no matter what settings I chose. I decided the handshake must be my problem, so I needed a monopod. I did a lot of research (especially here at Revain) before purchasing this monopod and was not disappointed. It's that simple: basically (simple!) a retractable wand with a screw on top, but it does the job. It has a rubber bottom for traction on slick surfaces that you can twist to hide the tip for unstable surfaces like mud. Pretty elegant. But the proof is in the pudding: I took several shots of my daughter running and they were all sharp as nails! Will this be the only monopod I'll ever need in my life? Maybe not, it doesn't look like it's meant to last a lifetime but I plan to be careful with it and won't be using it every day anyway. As a hobby photographer, I am completely satisfied with this monopod at a bargain price. If you're considering a tripod, I personally don't think a monopod will replace it, but it's a nice addition. Much lighter, much smaller, much easier to carry and set up, much more mobile once set up - in situations where you don't want or need absolute silence (you need to be able to pivot easily) and don't want to be in the picture of yourself. It does the job.
