This is a good product. If you had nothing to compare, you would probably agree; However, Manfrotto makes the best product. 322. Yes, you have to pack an extra half a pound, and yes, it's $10 more or so, but 322 is way SMOOTER (not even close. I mean, not even close to 324) but also way more durable if the trigger is released. This product, the 324, is small, compact, lightweight and gets the job done for most photographers who don't have to constantly pan horizontally or rotate vertically to track something. If you're into photographing sunsets, flowers, perched birds etc then this ball head may be for you and the half pound saving is probably worth it. It's very durable and I expect it to be able to handle all but the largest camera and lens combos. So my problem is the movement, not the stability. Bought for a spotting scope. Because I'm constantly panning and rotating my scope, my heart sank as I took the 324 out of the box and played around with it. I have the Brunton 322 version and it's much smoother. I can say that with the 324 it was not a lubrication problem. It was sticky, twitchy, and rough. I tried an adjustment hex screw but that didn't fix the problem. Tried the friction button - no luck. What ultimately worked for me? I ordered the 322 (assuming a 0.5lb gain, sigh) and it's the amazingly smoothest yet most durable joystick head I've ever worked with. Even better than my Brunton 322 clone. Final recommendation. This is a very good head and will be good enough for many given the lower cost and lighter weight. For me personally, the 322 is significantly better. I'd love to try 327 but I suppose I'm wasting my time since it uses the same ball as 324. I am delighted with my new 322.
