Review on Enhance Electronic Testing Efficiency with Extech TL809 Electronic Test Lead Kit by Eric Trask

This set is elegant as it uses one set of wires for multiple attachments, the problem is they are NOT MESTECH COMPATIBLE. I had to remove the tiny rubber stopper from the metal grommets before my meter could see the wires. No, these are not the typical plugs that come with most test leads, but if you remove these plugs and look into the hole, there is a tiny rubber element that prevents the test leads from making contact with the meter's contact points. After removal, I was able to use those leads; and I'm here to say that the tiny piece of rubber wasn't easy to remove either. All in all these test leads are decent, clearly not Fluke quality but I didn't pay the Fluke price so I can live with what I have. The nice thing is that the tips are interchangeable, but for $15 I'd rather buy a whole new set than bother trying to find new tips. The main reason I made this purchase was the alligator clips and for that I am giving this set 6 stars but subtracting two stars, one for each wire, for removing the rubber tab as that was the most pain in the ass possible. . I think the wires are PVC but they seem to be a bit flexible and are at least 10A like my meter and they match the wires I got with my Mastech meter. A really nice feature is that the caps on the test leads are removable to reveal the end of the banana plug, which fits in nicely and makes a solid connection to the alligator clips. I'm not sure if this is the standard for test leads, but it's worth mentioning here. If you are looking for reliable Alligator test leads then this brand is for you; assuming you have something other than the Mastech meter. Of course, if you can afford a Fluke, buy one, but for the rest of us looking for decent test leads WITHOUT THE PRICE for an arm and leg, these test leads are fine.
