Great photos, great customizable UI, great benefits of mirrorless

I love this camera! I've used a Canon 70D, 6D, 6D Mark II and 5D Mark IV before so I've put together some amazing Canon glasses. I think the learning curve is a bit steep when Canon's workflow is ingrained in your brain because the interface is so different. The menu system is very similar to my 6D2 and 6D. However, the external buttons and design are so different that I couldn't use my muscle memory in the quick moments of the photo shoot. However, I'm getting used to it now after using it for a long time, so it's almost second nature. You need to rethink your workflow a bit. The photos are just beautiful. If you're used to 6D or 6D2, you'll notice the difference immediately. If you're used to 5D4, the differences will be less noticeable or non-existent. Video is excellent too, mostly because it supports Canon magazine so you can color correct it to make it look professional and cinematic. To be honest I don't see the hype around 4k crop. I don't blog so it doesn't matter. If you want a portable vlog like 10-18, you can use a cheap wide-angle EFS. And 1080p is awesome. Many reviews mention that this is probably the best 1080p among cameras in this price range, including Sony (with the exception of the non-120fps 1080p option). The LCD screen and viewfinder are great. I don't know if it's my eyes and I haven't seen it in any reviews, but I do feel that the image in the EVF appears brighter than the image on the large LCD screen. So if you use the electronic viewfinder to adjust exposure instead of using the big screen, the end result will be different. As this is a new camera, not all Canon accessories will work. My rc6 remote does not work with eos r. My tc-80n3 timer console requires an adapter (although this accessory is unnecessary as the eos r has a built in intervalometer). This camera's interface is fast, the menus are beautifully organized by Canon and the customization of the controls is fantastic. I use a lens adapter with a control ring to use EF and EFS lenses. The control ring is impressive. It's fully customizable. I set the ISO, which means that when adjusting a shot via the screen or the electronic viewfinder, I can simply turn the control ring to change the ISO very quickly. So I have one dial for aperture, another for shutter speed, and a control ring for ISO. I also installed the multifunction touchpad as a white balance control. So I can press left or right to change the white balance (I prefer to use degrees over presets like daylight, tungsten, etc.), or I can swipe the strip for the same effect (usually I press for more detailed changes and to quickly to scroll from temperature, e.g. 6000 to 3000, I swipe). All of this means I can adjust my settings much more quickly than on my previous Canon cameras. You can still create custom presets like C1, C2, etc. The touchscreen is very responsive and great for quickly selecting AF points. I've never been a fan of manual manual focus before this camera. This camera has both Focus Peaking and Focus Assist (which I prefer). For example, in the focus guide, turn the focus ring until 3 triangles overlap. When they overlap, they turn green, indicating maximum focus. It's much easier than hitting the zoom button and using Live View to capture incredibly sharp manual focus photos than on older cameras. The adjustable touch screen makes taking photos amazing from any angle. And it's also great when you want to take a selfie (you can tap the screen to snap a photo instantly, and while that feature was also present on the 6D2, it was relatively slow on the 6D2, where the eos r almost is instantaneous). You no longer have to squirm on the ground to get a great low-angle shot. I wish the camera could shoot as fast as the 5d4, but that's not too bad. Did I mention the photos are stunningly beautiful?
