Review on πŸ“„ ADS-2200 Brother High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner with Duplex Scanning and Multiple Scan Destinations by Jason Ortiz

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works well, but incredibly stupid design - what were they thinking

I bought this scanner from Revain yesterday after the Epson ES 400 I bought a few days ago arrived broken; there will be no duplex scanning. This scanner and the Epson ES 400 are similar and require a USB cable to connect to your computer as it is not a wireless scanner. Epson included such a cable and I found Epson's software and instructions better than Brother's. Epson's support didn't impress me, and until now I have not needed Brother technical support. I think the installation guide for Brother is almost useless. The actual setup I did was intuitive. The software initially refused to be downloaded and installed and it took several attempts before it finally installed. While the Brother iPrint and Scan controls are fine, you'll have to work your way down the decision tree to get to them. The other software included is Paperport which actually has much better controls for this scanner than Brothers own. Also included is Presto Biz Card, a business card scanning program. It's also not an intuitive program, and its controls aren't well thought out. The Brother scanner itself works well and is quite fast. I think that if the Epson ES 400 hadn't arrived broken, I liked its design more and the software turned out to be better. I would suggest Epson ES 400 and if Brother fails or if it fails I will try Epson again. I've been using the scanner for about 1 month now, it works very well and is fairly automatic. The design is awful, so awful you should look elsewhere. The document holder for scanning has a tendency to separate from the scanner, and the document holder for scanned documents needs to be opened to use the scanner. They did that ass back to front because if the document holder was a hinged piece on top, not only would it not be separated from the scanner, but it would also serve as a dust cover. The scanned document tray may have just popped out. Note - once the documents have been scanned they are discarded - so you don't need the fancy mount that this scanner has. There really is no excuse for bad design.
