I don't usually like simple kitchen gadgets but this one is good enough to write a review. I have several mandoline slicers. They were all about the same. My biggest gripe was that 1) you couldn't find the blades when you needed them and 2) you had to use the plastic pusher to push the food around or you risked a nasty cut. The problem with each of these sliders (this mandolin also has one, but I haven't used it) is that it never held the food in place, left too much behind, or was painful to get stuck in the food. first place (like hard sweet potato). Either way, this food slicer comes with three simple extras: a small container to store all the blades, a cut-resistant glove, and best of all, everything fits into the base so nothing gets lost. Using a cut-resistant glove (and it works, I gently ran my hand over the blade as a test - wouldn't recommend it, but I figured I'd find out sooner rather than later) to slide or grate veggies, anything goes a lot more quickly. - Just take it and go. I'm sure if you try hard enough you could cut your glove, but it's MUCH safer. I would let an 8 year old cut veggies as long as he had a glove on. This feature alone makes me want to use this device more often, I can't say they thought of including it. So here are my pros and cons: PROS: - Everything fits in the base - Blade holder (no accidental digging and cuts) - Blades slide out easily but are strong when working - This glove is great even if you buy another mandolin , take a cut-resistant glove with you. Mostly rinsed, the brush cleans everything that has become stuck in the blades without endangering your hands. resistant to carrots, potatoes etc. - the blades are covered with white plastic. The manual predicts that foods like carrots will stain them and fade over time. I don't care about stains but if they want to improve the product black plastic/dark color might be better in a future version.
