Purchased for my '02 Sequoia after the tailgate would not open. After taking everything apart, I realized that the actuator itself was the cause of my tailgate failure, not the latch assembly, so I had to buy one and replace both. A few tips if your Sequoia Gen 1 tailgate won't open:* NO drilling or cutting required! Don't listen to advice from youtube videos and the like.* You can remove the inside of the tailgate from the inside to access the latch assembly and operator.* The black plastic cover over the latch assembly and operator has 2 screws that are removed can be opened with a #2 Phillips head.* 1/4" ratchet with #2 Phillips fastener is enough for 2 screws.* There are 2 plastic wiring harness connectors for the actuator, push and pull them, the cover will come off.* If With the cover removed you can get there and unlock the actuator so you can open the tailgate and install a new latch block and actuator. :)
