The cable is too long. Don't waste your money

Cable not long enough. To avoid this, I bought a genuine part from Toyota. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap replacement, or do what I did, drill a hole in the hatch and run the cable outside so it never happens again.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Poor set

Works perfectly on my 2005 Toyota Sequoia

I'm not particularly mechanically savvy so installation was a daunting task but I found some DIY videos on YouTube that helped me a lot. It took a few hours, but once I put the new latch in, everything worked great. I forgot what it's like when the tailgate lock is easy to open with one hand! I don't have to squeeze the handle and pull as hard as I can to try and open it. Very happy with this purchase.

The main reason for the breakage of the trunk handle. i know one

Main cause of tailgate handle failure. I know a lot of people have problems with broken tailgate handles and so do I. The real issue for me was that this locking component was so rusty that you actually had to pull the handle to open it, and it really wasn't. t is designed for this. Unfortunately I destroyed the new pen before I found out. Save yourself the headache and replace this latch when replacing a broken handle.

Perfect fit, works like new

Our 2001 Sequoia's tailgate latch started going crazy a few years ago. It doesn't stay locked. After lubricating the situation with WD-40 and silicone grease about every month, which temporarily fixed the situation, the current locking mechanism finally gave out for good and wouldn't engage at all. This part fit perfectly and I installed it within an hour. There are cheaper replacements available but I thought the original lasted almost 20 years so hopefully this one will too. And remember, if…

Fits perfectly. Don't waste your time with cheaper alternatives.

There are places where you can save money on cheaper components and other brands. This isn't one of those places. Spend the extra money if you really don't like crawling into your car and taking the doors apart while they're stuck. A few original parts, including the latch, cable and handle, finally put an end to the four-year struggle with cheap parts. If your tailgate does not open, this is probably the cause. The locking mechanism is metal but has a plastic shell that wears out after about…

Works great now. Part Fits Perfectly

If you have a closed position error with the sunroof closed, continue working with the release button and apply some penetrating lubricant. I removed the interior trim and metal trim with the door closed to gain access to the latch mechanism. The black plastic cover has two very small Phillips screws on the back that connect to the two screw holes you see in the H-shaped extension at the top of the latch frame. I used a small Phillips head from a screwdriver to drive the screws. There are very…

Easy to fix but more detail needed.

This latch assembly is a genuine Toyota and a very difficult installation for a shop mechanic. However, there is a problem to be aware of. Many people refer to this part as an actuator. It is not. This is a bug I've had trouble with even at auto parts stores. I ordered an actuator but received a latch assembly. I have returned the shutter unit. to the parts warehouse and ordered the drive and bolt at the same time. They were significantly cheaper here at Revain and decided to change both. So…

Genuine OEM parts at a reasonable price.

Purchased for my '02 Sequoia after the tailgate would not open. After taking everything apart, I realized that the actuator itself was the cause of my tailgate failure, not the latch assembly, so I had to buy one and replace both. A few tips if your Sequoia Gen 1 tailgate won't open:* NO drilling or cutting required! Don't listen to advice from youtube videos and the like.* You can remove the inside of the tailgate from the inside to access the latch assembly and operator.* The black plastic…
