Before this foundation was added to the bed, every metal slate could be felt when lying on the bed. Once this item was placed, the problem was corrected and the mattress is comfortable. This foundation added a smooth base for the mattress. The foundation is light and easy to place on top of the slats. I picked it simply because it had wood. It arrived in a large box and all we had to do was unfold it (king size) and place on bed. I am very happy with this purchase.
