Review on Freenove Hexapod Robot Kit for Raspberry Pi 4 B 3 B+ B A+: Walking, Balancing, Live Video, Face Recognition by James Bartels

Developed for advanced users, created for beginners. Bad combo.

Well, there's no arguing about the quality of the materials at an affordable price. Even the lowest tier of quality servo will cost you at least $20 apiece. And with 18 servos in this kit, that would be $360 before they even start developing this hexapod. So for the price of a complete kit you should expect some very inferior parts. Good job managed to get the price so low! As for assembly, the instructions were adequate. I was able to understand them and follow them right to the point of interaction and actually using the thing. Then it lost me. For those confused, it interacts with your phone. There is an application to download. It took me a few hours of research to find out. The instructions don't mention this. It talks about the interface but doesn't say anything about how to do it. The guide just falls off like a missing page after explaining how to connect without a guide to an interface you probably should be aware of. In order for everything to work on Linux, a series of tests must be passed. Terminal command line. If you don't like Linux terminal, this product might be too advanced for you. But then I think this device was intended for those who are already very familiar with the Raspberry Pi. Even more than I have with just over a year of experience. In any event, if I could reconsider this purchase, I definitely wouldn't. It's too weak and fragile for an advanced user and too difficult for a beginner. Not an ideal design. Wait until you get familiar with the Raspberry Pi, then buy an advanced hexapod for around $1000. That's where I'm going next.

Pros
  • Excellent Price
Cons
  • Long Wait
