A neighbor's kid tore all the rope out of our original kite rope and somehow it got very knotted while winding it up. I thought I would just throw the kite away but then I realized I paid $25 for the kite so I looked for a spare spool. They worked well and had no problems with them. The only thing missing from this spool is a plastic part that you can use to stop the unwinding process when children are holding the kite alone. Our final spool has a section in the middle that you can wrap the thread around when you have reached your desired length.
