I was very interested in this product as my electric opener was becoming too difficult to use (I never managed to position the blade properly to operate the opener so I had to resort to an old school manual opener which has become too painful to use due to my recent osteoarthritis). Anyway, I eagerly approached my first glass. The opener turned the can over and stopped. (Oh, practice has taught me that to turn it on you have to press/hold lightly, not just press quickly.) I picked up an opener that didn't have a lid attached and the jar looked like this, brought home for the first time ! couldn't see any trace of the opener cut! As far as I can remember I tried again. Then I reread the instructions for removing the lid and, first gently and then with all my might, squeezed around the sides of the jar. Instead of carefully lifting the lid, he jumped up and the jar squirted the liquid portion of its contents onto my clothes and the counter! I didn't particularly enjoy dealing with the tomato sauce stain. whether it's overcooked beans (which often contain some liquid) or vegetables packed in water, the liquid part always splashes out! So be careful - put on an apron before approaching or be prepared to spot clean. Otherwise, the newcomer is great, which is why I gave it 4 stars.
