I used to repair my own electronics and don't consider myself a professional. So in the past I've also used the classic method of melting the solder, then gently tugging on the part to be removed (like the cap) and doing the same with the opposite leg, rocking back and forth and the component to pull. This is tedious and sometimes difficult depending on which component you want to remove. And there is always a big risk of damaging the pads. That's why I really wanted to try one of these "suckers". Does it work like the nicer electronic types? Probably not, but it does its job well enough that the braid can be used to completely clean the pads. It's safer for the board, easier and quicker to pay for itself. Just keep it clean and your gold. If you are new to soldering, this is an essential tool to improve your skills and get the job done.
