Review on πŸŽ₯ Amcrest AWC201-B 1080P Webcam: High Definition Streaming with Privacy Cover, Microphone, Wide Angle Lens, and Large Sensor for PC Desktop and Laptop by Marc Stewart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A basic 1080P webcam is good for webcams

Installation: I installed this on a Windows 10 Pro computer, the installation went smoothly, plug and play with no drivers or anything. It should support Mac, but I haven't tried it. What's in the box: The camera comes with a basic tripod that's a few inches tall, a stylus on the lid for privacy, and a small mount. pretty clear, I tested it in a lighted room and it looked fine. Color balance was good in a well-lit room. I turned off the light, the only light came from my very large monitor and the image was visible, although my face was white as if someone had shined a flashlight on it. I've tested it with zoom and normal and the virtual backgrounds look fine. There are lights on either side of the camera so you know when it's on. The lighting is white and subdued so it's not distracting. The field of view is quite wide and suitable for video conferences. Sound: A built-in pinhole microphone on the left side. low, even with the maximum increase in levels. Comparison to the competition: It's very comparable in size to the Logitech 922 or 920, but doesn't feel as solid. It's also 30 fps at 1080, I think Logitech hits 60. If you compare it to a webcam on a Mac, Amcrest's performance is much better (I think current-gen Macs are 720P). Overall Impression: I only played around with it for 15-20 minutes, but it's a good camera. It would be a decent option for video conferencing or streaming. Can be supplemented with a separate headset with microphone. I suspect Amcrest realized there was a major shortage of webcams in the webcam market, with all US stocks running out everywhere for competing products, and rushed to get something out quickly to deal with the madness. As for what it's all about these days of homeschooling, Zoom calls it definitely fills the need.
